I think it is just a function of the fact that I moved around so much as a child that I learnt early on to make every place my home.
When I'm writing for Esquire, my conscious thought is, I'm not writing for American Scholar.
I know that after my letter there will be undoubtedly an 'opinion' about me, but I am not afraid of it. I openly say what I think. Talent, of which we are proud, must not be submitted to the assaults of the past.
