We've been playing games since humanity had civilization - there is something primal about our desire and our ability to play games. It's so deep-seated that it can bypass latter-day cultural norms and biases.
I think a game hits a high point when it provokes reactions the designer doesn't expect.
I have never been assigned a game, I have never made a game I didn't want to make. I've never done anything just to make somebody some money.
