Academic and aristocratic people live in such an uncommon atmosphere that common sense can rarely reach them.
Never does one feel oneself so utterly helpless as in trying to speak comfort for great bereavement. I will not try it. Time is the only comforter for the loss of a mother.
A barrier for me - which has been both a strength and a weakness - has been my taste. The kind of things I'm interested in aren't always mainstream.
