Most filmmakers' entire body of knowledge is of other movies. When they describe things, they describe them in relation to other movies. That's why we have so many cyclical movies that look like other movies. But I'm not cynical. I even go to some of those movies.
The last couple of practices, all we've been doing is a lot of defensive things. We've been going over some drills that make all of us have to communicate.
That's a paradox I've noticed, too: The news business held little romance for me, yet writing about it somehow stirred my affections.
